I was equal parts frustrated and disappointed with
Treaty at Doona
. I think much of that arose from the chaotic variations of how many in-universe words where spelled as well as the sporadic attempts to convey Hrruban accents without consistency. More to the point, I think that there was a general failing in establishing that paranoia and pettiness are standard personality traits amongst the Terran ruling/administrative class. Without giving reason as to why the antagonists immediately form deep and abiding personal dislikes and vendettas against the Reeves, the plots of the latter two books in the series seem half-hearted and ill-conceived.
I cannot say much for the new aliens in this book. They mostly exist to give another group an excuse to get mad at the Reeves while Todd and company are the voices of reason and understanding.
