A very nice compilation of letters from illustrators to children, including examples of their work. I especially enjoyed (as I always do) glimpses at sketchbooks, early work, and studio space. It makes them seem more real! I even learned about some artists with whom I was not familiar.

I also feel encouraged reading that even the most talented artists have not always easily or directly achieved their goals in the art world, but as Eric Carle says in his introduction, these are artists who "follow their instincts and listen to their own inner voices."
