This seems to be a poetic exploration of the lives of first-generation Bengali-Americans, who are desperately trying to straddle the new and old worlds. These are stories about family, custom, community and the unique experience of belonging to two very separate cultures.

I loved the way the stories were very subtly linked, with one character MAYBE making a cameo in another. It perfectly illustrated the closeness of the community, without forcing the connections.

This also made a great audio book, as it was narrated by two actors. They both did a great job, switching accents and sometimes languages.
