What a pleasant surprise this book is. Going by the writing and characterization, you'd never know this story is written by a livejournal member and available as a free read. The author's writing is better than many in the publishing industry, and certainly more so than others in her genre. Although not without some flaws, the world-building is highly addictive in its complexity and originality. The characters have very well-developed personalities and are easy to get attacted to. I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite character, but if you twist my thumb I'd say Jer; there's just something about him.

Engrossing, erotic, and humorous, this first installment to the The Slave Breakers series has made me a true fan of the lady known as Maculategiraffe.
