Jon Stewart has nothing on Tony Horwitz's entertaining and enlightening depiction of culture and politics in the Middle East. The book reads like comedy, but Horwitz seems well aware that playing the jester is an effective way to reveal the inanity and often insanity in places like Iraq and Libya. He offers readers a stress-free tour of a stressful neighborhood while increasing our awareness and knowledge. And he's a whiz with Gaddafi zingers.
