really liked it
bookshelves: 2012, graphicnovels, horror

Collected here are six issues of the regular AV series, plus a four issue mini-series... all ten issues focus on vampiric happenings during World War II. I sampled this series' first few issues and had decided it wasn't for me... but Volume 3 really turned me around.

The central conflict of the series comes to a head in a surprising way here. In a lot of comics, the plot and characters seem to go on and on indefinitely; Snyder's willingness to move the story along hooked me in. I quite enjoyed Rafael Albuquerque's pencils on the first half of the book, but was more taken with Sean Murphy's scratchy renditions of the vampires of the Third Reich in "Survival of the Fittest."

Definitely looking forward to keeping up with American Vampire from here on out.
