the narrator is weary and bewildered and ultimately sickened by what he sees as he travels across the u.s., the racism in the south, the apathy and blandness elsewhere. his observations lack edge--he seems a bit removed--but i liked his one page love affair with montana, the coziness of his driving with his poodle, sleeping and cooking in his truck. made me want to get up earlier in the morning and add eggshells to my coffee grounds.
