I really enjoyed this book. It is a serious story, but there are also some very funny parts. The Watson's live in Flint, Michigan, but go to visit their grandmother in Birmingham in the summer of 1963. The story is told by Kenny, the middle child and he can be quite funny. While the family is in Birmingham, a church is bombed and four girls are killed. The whole family is impacted, but it seems to affect Kenny the most. The author includes information about the actual bombing and the civil rights struggle going on at that time.
