really liked it
bookshelves: china, fiction
Read from February 15 to 21, 2012

Sensitive exploration of love in almost all it's forms: sister, mother, daughter, family, spouse, country, self. Chinese sisters from Shanghai in the gay 30's who barely escape the Japanese invasion and go to Los Angeles as bartered brides. I felt that I was actually in Chinatown. FBI doing their useless, destructive thing. Couldn't put it down. Lisa See writes from a woman's perspective and I love that.
Story continues in Dreams of Joy which I immediately ran out and borrowed from the library!
