This was a hard book to love, and I'm pretty sure I don't, but it held my attention throughout. The author is very clever in how he weaves the plot lines, suddenly going back in time as we are fed bits of information that begin to explain some of what we've already read, or moving us ahead to the point we wonder how we ever got to this situation. This weaving was beautifully done, and while the story is a sad one, I could really feel for the characters and the messes they were in, and how powerless they felt to affect the changes they sought. The book has stayed with me for awhile, and that's a good sign of how moved I was by the excellent storytelling and memorable characters.
