This is a startling, brilliant, beautifully written book.

When I read it, it masterfully broke down so many of my preconceptions about Egypt in the early 20th century. The characterizations are fabulous.

This book is deserving of ANY praise sent its way.

I found the sequels more difficult and obscure--I've been told that the symbolism in those books is very important, very significant to the Egyptian reader, and that may well be true.

This one, however transcends all national limitations. A book for the world.
