My favorite King books are 'Stand by Me' aka 'The Body' & 'The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon', so I was pretty excited as I began this book. Rich in detail & character development, I read the 1st 3 or 4 hundred pages with eager anticipation.

Unfortunately - for me, at least - this book fell short at the end. I often find that to be true with his books. And I need to say this right up front - I think Stephen King has a HUGE talent! He pulls the reader into a story like a lover pulling his beloved into anxious, waiting arms. The heart races, skin flushes, eyes dilate ... and then ... it's over and I am left gasping "What happened?"!!

I don't mind the creepy ... it wouldn't be King otherwise, would it? I just want that part to be at the same level as the rest of it. Instead I am left feeling that he just slapped an ending on there. Too many questions unanswered, too many threads that lead nowhere. I'm not a reader who needs everything neat & tidy - I just want it to a twisted sort of sense!
