I really enjoyed this novel by Kristin Hannah and read it very quickly. HOME FRONT is the story of Jolene, a wife and mother who's also a helicopter pilot in the National Guard. She's married to a defense attorney named Michael, who's the love of her life. When Michael starts acting distant, Jolene tries not to worry. Until one evening when they squabble and he tells her he doesn't love her anymore. Jolene is crushed, but puts on a brave face for their two children. Although divorce seems to be in the cards, life takes another huge twist for Jolene that changes everything: she's deployed to Iraq. Her children aren't happy about her leaving, and Michael resents that she's putting her family second to her country. Jolene goes where duty takes her, however hard it may be. She tries to keep things lighthearted with her family in her letters and phone calls, but her stint in Iraq isn't pleasant in the least. On the home front, while handling a client--a soldier with PTSD who murdered his wife--Michael also has to play Mr. Mom. He begins to miss Jolene and realize how important she is in his life as well as the girls' lives. Only is it too late for him to get her back when things in Iraq take a terrible turn? HOME FRONT is an emotional ride, detailing a marriage on the rocks and the strain on a family when one parent is called to serve.
