Prayer is hard for me. I can't stay focused. I'ved tried all sorts of lists and notebooks. By contrast, I have no trouble concentrating on Bible study. My spiritual life is 97% Bible study and 3% prayer.

I thought this book might help me. In a short 100-page, brightly colored book, the author describes how to use doodling as an aid to prayer. Basically, you are substituting images for words. You are praying for the person as you write his/her name on a piece of paper with gel pens or colored pencils and then embellish it with colorful shapes and swirls. If you can draw a stick figure, you can do this. No art skill required. She even has a chapter on computer doodling.

I've made three picture doodles so far. And the images are indeed sticking in my mind throughout the day better than words were. I want to keep going with it, but first, a trip to AC Moore to get some gel pens.
