Cheryl L. Reed is not a Catholic but like Julia Leiblich who wrote Sisters: Lives of Devotion and Defiance (who is Jewish) she spent a great deal of time, living with and interviewing many different communities of nuns. Reed is a journalist, she writes succinctly and factually, but that does not keep her from making this a personal journey. In Unveiled, we get to travel with a strong, warm, and honest woman, a pilgrim who seeks meaning in life and who wonders what lies behind the dedication she sees reflected in the lives of others. I loved this book because of its diverse subjects (not all nuns are alike, no indeed!), its wry humor, and its lively, thoughtful presentation.
