Having read the first two of Gabaldon's "Lord John" series, I'd put off reading this combination of Lord John and Outlander as I was worried the revisit with Jamie wouldn't come off well. I'd *loved* the full Outlander series and felt she was really struggling to find a full voice for her Lord John Grey character. It was a pleasant surprise to find that she did, in fact, find a better equilibrium with Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner and would highly recommend to others awaiting a next in the Outlander series to pick this up for a thoroughly Gabaldon read. Rich character development, thoughtful, image-rich writing. Often found myself reading and re-reading sentences/scenes to fully tuck into them.
