Helena Miller Ok, ok, you're right: it was absolutely amazing! I may go up to 5 stars, but I did have one thing that kept it from my highest rating. John Green, who you KNOW I love, writes these characters that are so smart, so funny, so well-adjusted, that sometimes it's hard to believe them. That was OK with me in his other novels, but thinking that this book will likely be read by other teens who have cancer, I was hoping he'd present them with role models that might share some of the emotional messiness/immaturity that I would expect from anyone of any age who has such a crappy hand dealt them by life. I guess I just thought that Augustus and Hazel were almost too perfectly well-adjusted to their horrible fates. I would have liked to have seen them being a bit more messy, a bet less "together" all the time, and in a way I would see that as comforting to any real-live readers who are battling cancer. Does that make sense? Please fight me on this--I'd love to hear your perspective!
