really liked it

This book deserves its Caldecott honor medal. When a family loses electricity--and finds out the whole city is out of power--they join in an alternative world where everyone takes time to look at the stars, barbecue on the street, and play games by candle light. The children in the book are obviously thrilled to have this down time with their parents and most kids will relate to the events, reminding them of snow days, power outages, or even camping trips when our technology is left behind and we are not always busy. The comic-strip style illustrations have great kid appeal, and it is nice to see an urban family depicted as happy and united. Excellent book to share with kids in K-5.
