The file (mobi from ARE) was poorly formatted, with multiple instances of paragraph breaks in the middle of sentences. There were some other editing errors, as well. For example: "Tensions ran high the next few days" closely followed by "Last night was amazing," as if no time had passed at all.

I felt the characters were shallow caricatures (Rex in particular came across like a 13 year old girl I wanted to slap the crap out of) whose motivations were driven by the needs of the plot, rather than the other way around.

The author did do a decent job with physical descriptions, describing the cold and the cottage with nice detail.

Unfortunately, that was not enough to salvage what is, at best, a mediocre example of the "permission from lost love to move on" trope.
