Kira-Kira tells us the story of a Japanese-American girl named Katie and the struggles that she goes through her childhood. In Kira-Kira, we learn about how Katie and her older sister Lynn are really close and how the do a lot of things to help out their parent save for a new house. Throughout the story Lynn keeps getting sick and well by the middle of the book we learn about the sickness that Lynn has and that she might die. Eventually, Lynn does die and leaves Katie feeling guilty. Katie's family seems to fall even more apart once Lynn is gone and it is up to Katie to try to fix things. From this point Katie tries her best in school since she wants to follow with her promise to Lynn. She also tries to do everything that her sister ever dreamed of.

I really enjoyed reading this book and feel that children who have a sick sibling should read this story. It is really a heart touching story.
