Hard to put it down. Winter is still coming. I love the fact that Martin creates additional rivalries beyond the 3 main families (Lannister, Stark, Targaryen) from the first novel in this series. We now have 7 different groups of people to keep up with... and somehow it is actually pretty easy to keep track. Lots of good battles in this novel as well to give good medieval backdrop. Also - the "fantastic" elements start to emerge on a more regular basis. I still don't like fantasy... but these things don't bother me in A Clash of Kings.

Great book, so why not 5 stars? It took first 200 pages to really ramp up and the ending, while spectacular, gives more questions than answers. Luckily I can begin book 3 quickly - but I could not imagine if I had read Clash of Kings just after it was published. Could never wait years for Martin to finish #3. Also - you definitely have to read Game of Thrones first... but why not as that novel is a solid 5 stars.
