while I never would have picked up this book if not for a book club, I am not thoroughly disapointed either.
generally, I do not enjoy historical romance, which is what I assumed this would be. it was far more mystery and sadness then ridiculous sensuality. it isn't written in a typical historical fashion which helped, but was written in a rather bland style no-less. I had troubles getting into this book. I didn't find it interesting enough to sit and read for any length until I was nearly finished.
the story itself isn't bad. I enjoyed finding out what happened next, but I'm not sure how this became a series. I enjoyed the characters and the twists and turns of the plot. the end was nothing I could have conceived in the beginning.
I do think this book is worth the read, but definitely borrow it. if you enjoy a strong female lead set in an unraveling murder mystery with some surprise twists, that is.
