Extremely vivid, engaging and unsettling book about the Afghan War & about combat in general. Well-read by the author, too. My only gripe is a philosophical (and to some extent methodological) one, which is the overlay of gender essentialism (the author writes as though he's revealing something that's unique and inherent to 'men' rather than considering that the evidence is stacked by the samples being studied), and also a weird tangent about evolutionary psychology (he can't come up with an evolutionary basis for altruism but won't acknowledge that maybe there ISN'T one). Despite those couple snags that had me yelling at the CD player, though, it's a very well done and thought-provoking book.
