Brilliantly written with Hemingway's typical short declarative sentences and rich symbolism. That being said, The Old Man and the Sea is the one book I couldn't finish in high-school because I kept falling asleep. As exciting as an old Cuban fisherman getting pulled around the ocean by a great fish is, it failed to grasp my adolescent interest, so I decided to give it a read as an adult and I FINISHED it!!! The plot line is decidedly lacking, in my opinion, but the themes interwoven into the story are a great springboard for discussion and thought.

Christina can't wait to talk about themes!!! I've "discovered" some and wonder if others have picked up on them too
