4.5 -5 stars

There are some parts of this book that I love and parts that I don't.

I love that Alanna realizes that she needs some time to sort things through after killing Roger. She needs to make some time as a knight and know that she won't get that at court. Subconsciously she also knows that she needs some time away from men.

Alanna makes peace with her magic. She carves a place out for herself among the Bahzir. However she doesn't manage to figure out her guy problem, aka Jonathon.

Jon drives me nuts. He is so highhanded and selfish toward Alanna and his reaction of find someone who I can rub Alanna's nose is terrible. However her reaction isn't much better because she responds like a wussy baby instead of the tough knight she is. Sulk and cry and poor poor patient George who finally gets some. Arrrgh.
