I only read Taming the Terrible Twos: Self-Regulation and School Readiness (chap 2). Good literature survey demonstrating that self-regulation skills improve school performance in the long run. No practical advice on how to develop self-regulation skills, except citing several studies of a system based on Russian development theorist Vygotsky called Tools of the Mind used by teachers to improve student self-regulation and other skills required for learning.
