it was amazing
Read from February 23 to 24, 2012

The thing that ate away at me while reading this book was that I could truly see something like this happening to our world. I think that is what made reading it so compelling. At times, I was horrified by what I read and just had to stop because I was repulsed. The reality of what people could do when they were so desperate was shocking.

Zoe's strength and courage was what gave me hope. She understood the world was not the same and she had to do things that she never would have dreamed she could do in order to survive. I admired her fierce determination to find Nick, and that she chose to take care of people who were suffering. She offered kindness and decency to others when there was little to be found.

This book was beautifully written, and I liked reading about Zoe's past and present. I didn't find the switch back and forth hard to follow, and it was interesting reading about her life before everything happened. The plot had many twists and turns, and the last few pages were shocking yet somewhat of a relief. It left me wishing that there was a happily ever after and some peace for Zoe. I'm not sure what will happen to her. It was a hard book to read, but I know it will stay with me for a long time and I am glad that I read it. I will be reading the rest of this series, as I am very curious about Zoe's future.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads. Thank you! :)
