Lanore comes on a serial killer killing a in an alley after she herself was assaulted minutes ago after she had been stealing a case of university textbooks out of necessity. Fire Baptized really begins with an attention-grabbing start along with introducing the current life of. She lives with her ex-boyfriend , Meshack, at his apartment she happens to share with him. It's also quickly obvious that he still wants her but she pushes him away since in the past he cheated on her. Just as Lanore starts to wind down from her frightening encounter in the alley, she receives an ominous message from the killer she couldn't quite see in the alleyway amidst raining downpour and cloudiness. She saw a murder being committed but didn't get a good view of the actual killer! This serves unfortunate to put her on the killer's target list.
Well at least Zulu the face of MFE (Mixbreeds for Equality) is willing to use all his resources to help her. Of course, Meshack , isn't sitting out of protecting her either. Zulu and Meshack isn't a good combination and the added mystery of the unknown killer does make the situation incredibly deadly.

This was a book that started out really great and waned but finally reached a good point again in terms of the plot. Its very plot-driven and actually so-so in character development. The favorites being Lanore, Zulu, Meshack, and the mysterious "The Palero". Lanore is very much a strong female that express her mind such as not letting the guys push her, Zulu the calm but commanding guy, and Meshack the jealous ex-boyfriend who seems to still miss Lanore. Readers now will have to decide between Zulu and Meshack. Zulu is someone admirable for his confident self as well as allowing Lanore to make her own decisions. Meshack has his good attributes but comes out immature and pushy. The Palero is a character that from what got from Fire Baptized was this almost overwhelming powerful supernatural. Hopefully in the novels to come we can discover what The Palero is and his connection to Lanore. Readers should keep an eye out for the romance though. The romance besides being emotional can be sensous. In this particular scene, we get Kenya Wright's sense for the seducing scenes she can create. There's humor too in a moment in the novel when Lanore sets out to find clues to who the killer is and she happens to have to go to a stripper club. Very hilarious! Kept thinking. wow, didn't see that coming.

Overall: Touching read
Genre: Paranormal, Romance- Erotic Romance, Shapeshifters, Supernatural, Mystery/Suspense
