it was amazing
bookshelves: erotica, western-frontier
Recommended for: Readers who like not being able to catch their breath during steamy scenes

If you like the strong and silent alpha (not brooding, just not Chatty Charlie) and one firecracker of a heroine then this is a must read! Sam’s Creed is an excellent story whether you like western romances or not –and they’re rarely my first pick.

This is sooo much better than Caine’s Reckoning, the first in the Hell’s Eight series. It’s a lot “gentler” in terms of romance and steam but in no way takes away from the sun blistering sex! Very erotic without being one of those “squash the meat” icky reads. The sexual tension is exceptionally well done. McCarty sloooowlyyyyyy draws you in and tightens the string until you can’t take it anymore. You’ll find yourself holding your breath and then suddenly you’re gasping out an “OMG! OMG”!

There are some horrific after effects of violence scenes in the book that just make your skin crawl but there is also a beautiful love story here too. McCarty does a brilliant job of painting Sam as this hard as nails cowboy who only says what’s necessary and no more. It’s one liners all the time from this guy. He’s so reserved, however under it all lies this strength and passion that when unharnessed he will do anything, anything, anything(!) to make Isabella happy.

The way Sam and Isabella trade barbs is so much fun to read and it’s all part of that sexual tension build up that makes the time spent talking about or actually riding the ol’ baloney pony a feast for the senses ;D

ElaineY I enjoyed Caine's Reckoning even though I don't read historicals as a rule and had been of two minds whether to buy Sam's Creed. Do post a review when you're done, please?

Eastofoz I liked Caine's Reckoning too Elaine but so far I like Sam's Creed better though I'm only 150 pages in--and not for lacking of trying to get through this faster! Everybody and their cousin needs something from you when you're reading you know ;-)

Tammy Is this a historical? I saw it at the local B&N and almost picked up the book just because of the cover!

Auntee More like a western-historical. Takes place in Texas-mid 1800's. It's a good one Tammy! And the cover's not bad either! ;D

Eastofoz Tammy I second Auntee wholeheartedly! GET IT! Westerns aren't my favourite but this is really good. I've got about 100 pages to go and I haven't been able to put it down---it's a 400+ pager in trade size format (at least the printing is a decent size for once!) so it's a biggie but you don't feel the pages at all. Oh ya, and the seexxxxxxxxxxxxx! Phew! I have so got to move to a colder climate =)

Tammy Okay. I'll add it to my TBR pile right behind the Vikings, East!

Eastofoz And you won't be sorry with either Tammy :D

ElaineY Ok, I'll try to see if I can buy a copy off ebay and have it shipped over like I did Caine's Reckoning. I don't read historicals anymore but I don't mind a historical western though I sure prefer those contemporary cowboys, especially the gay ones. LOL! (I never saw Brokeback Mountain, btw.)

Auntee Loved it! "Squash the meat"? LOL! ;D

Laura Dear Goddess...Auntee!...do our brains think alike or what?!! The first thing I noticed was East's comment "squash the meat"!!!

Okay, East, have mercy on me, but I just don't understand what you mean by that. Could you explain what "squash the meat" means? Seriously, I'm not kidding you...I don't get it.

And thanks, East, for giving me such a big laugh when I read that. I almost fell out of my computer chair. You are a hoot!!!

ElaineY 'Squash the meat'...gee, you guys are brave. I didn't even dare to ask but yeah, a couple of things ran through my mind - like maybe virgins squash the meat tighter?

Christel TIGHTER?!?!?!?!

Eastofoz If you want to read a "squash the meat" book can I suggest LONG HARD RIDE by Lorelei James---god I'm hating that book! After reading Sam's Creed this one is just ick-city :-o

Laura and Auntee, glad you got a good chuckle ;)

Christel Yeah I would not read Long Hard ride after Hell's 8. Just no real comparison there.

Julie (jjmachshev) I liked the "riding the ol baloney pony" myself!

ElaineY Oh really? I bought it when it first came out but haven't gotten round to reading it. I'd better read it before Sam's Creed arrives, huh? Curious to know what you mean by ick-city. Is it the multiple partner thing? I vaguely recall it has a menage at least...but maybe not...I have so many ebooks on my TBR list and some of them are from 2 years back!

What I find icky, though, are siblings sharing a partner. Still can't bring myself to feel comfortable about that. Which sucks because I love menages and a lot of them feature twins. :(

Christel "The ole balony pony??"" First time I ever heard that WOO HOOwheeeeee

Eastofoz Elaine "ick city" for me is all the steamy stuff that's written as yucky/raunchy/ew-I-am-going-gag sex --to each his own but I need something with more "finesse" in erotica as opposed to "and he shoved it in there right up to her *** and then stuck it in there real hard with a *** and then they all rammed it in wherever they could all at the same time!!" --but hey, that's just me :D And I've yet to read a menage scene that I've liked. They've all been seedy --but I'm not giving up :p So ya I'd read Long Hard Read well away from Sam's Creed.

Christel I have a guy friend of mine who refers to sex as riding the baloney pony and it always makes me laugh--very visual (!) ;D
