Loved it! Too bad this is just a "side deviation"—I loved the characters, the setting, and [gasp!] allomancy with firearms! This story would probably be great standing on its own, but having read the Mistborn books already published, I enjoyed the "historical" references made to characters and events previously covered in those stories. I'm not quite sure how to explain what I was feeling, but having the original Mistborn trilogy published first (the prequels?) was a brilliant move, and helps push this story forward with a well-established background. Contrast this with the Star Wars trilogies that were presented in a chronologically challenged order. The first three Mistborn books didn't feel like prequel material when I read them, but now that I've read The Alloy of Law, that's how it seems in retrospect—in a good way.
