Scudamore is a wonderful storyteller - the plot and twists were rather generic, but the dialogue and the writing were so rich. Add that to a place/setting that I knew very little about and I couldn't put the book down. So many themes: coming of age, mother-son, money, power, wealth, etc...it's all there, but not too much that any one idea loses its potency.
