** spoiler alert ** I don't know if it's because I haven't read a Dirk Pitt novel in ages but it just didn't seem to be as great a read as the others. It seemed like the usual fun times formula but it just didn't strike me as much. Dirk & Al were hilarious together as always, but alone I felt like the bromance was a bit one sided. Everyone and their mother was fussing about Pitt every 20 seconds and it was getting really old really quick. Not to mention the Pitt girl du-jour: the repeated "only other woman I've truly ever loved was Summer", um...did he? Did I miss that? I coulda sworn he was just as into flings as they claim Al is (although the insight into Al's condo was fantastic) and I'm completely confused. As typical with Pitt books, the drama is way over the top, the villains are fantastic, and plot armor is thick. A good read, but not the best Pitt book.
