I gave this book a really good try. I couldn't instantly get into it since the characters didn't seem to be doing anything profound and they weren't immediately likable to me, but I gave it another shot. I found my attention wandering all over the place because I couldn't find anything of substance here to grab hold of. The old man character says some religious words to a few creatures which kills them, he has a bit of an attitude, and is a bit grumpy I guess. Put next to his apprentice he seems like a terrible person, but he is rather normal. The old man's sense of humor isn't really that funny, and the apprentice's religious fervor isn't amusing either. The wild lion form girl isn't special in any way, and didn't grab my attention at all. I remember the introduction said something about the author thanking someone for inspiring him to go past "that's an interesting idea" to making a book about it. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to disagree, this really isn't an interesting idea. Three people that are supposed to be quirky, travel around trying to track down the bad guy. There is an interesting Robin Hood character, and his purpose is evident from the beginning, so that ruins the fun. I started flipping after I realized nothing important was happening and I saw no reason to continue. Honestly, the characters aren't special, they aren't amusing, their quest is very one dimensional, and the magic system is nothing interesting. It wasn't worth finishing.

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) I just got this one too!

message 2: by Ithlilian (new) - added it

Ithlilian I remember seeing the cover from Ranting Dragon, I was walking through the new section in the library and they had it. Been sick, so I'm behind on reading. I hope I can get to it before it's due back.

Kathy (Kindle-aholic) Feel better soon!
