Part biography, part history of photography, and part philosophy, Solnit weaves an interesting picture of the coming-of-age of high(er)-speed photography and film amid the ever-increasing speed of modern life during the latter half of the 19th century. While not comprehensive (and not really intended to be), what is included is never dull, and definitely worth a look for those interested in the history of photography, San Francisco, or the man himself, Eadweard Muybridge.
