it was amazing
bookshelves: dark-fantasy
Read from March 02 to 07, 2012

I downloaded this book during an event where it was freely available on amazon.

An interesting mix of vampires, Greek and Egyptian mythology, as well as Christian and Jewish beliefs, this novel held my attention and was in fact very enjoyable. One might expect such a conglomeration to feel contrived, but the author manages to blend them together in a satisfying way.

My only problem with the novel is the very last scene; it feels as though the author tried too hard to hit a "duh-duh-duh!" ending. Sadly, it came across as overly melodramatic.

The rest of the book, however, is an exciting adventure that reads very easily. Andy Gavin is an author I haven't come across before (though I thoroughly enjoyed his history in the video game industry; he's the creator of Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter), and I couldn't let a chance to discover a new author to pass by, especially when it was free. I'll likely be paying for any future releases.
