it was ok
bookshelves: 2012-books, arc, first-books
Read from February 07 to 10, 2012

Boo! I am bummed - I wanted to love this book, it sounded interesting and Sherman is a debut author. I love first novels! Unfortunately, the voice of the novel was very detached and given the author wants us to be invested in the characters and events - it was hard to muster up much care for any of it. Sorry, Susan Sherman. :(

Penny (Literary Hoarders) No! really? Just added it! Details!

Sorry, Penny! I don't really have much to add to what I wrote already...I don't read reviews until after I have finished a book and - of course - when I started reading the reviews, everyone LOVES THIS BOOK! I hate when this happens. It was a book assigned for work too...

message 3: by Dree (new)

Dree Is it really similar at all to Away? I loved that book, but tend to not believe comparisons by publishers.

Jennifer D. I loved Away, Dree. A lot. I mean, the idea is similar and I could see why the publisher would want to make that comparison for the writing or mood of the book, but Sherman - to me - was not as strong as Bloom. I cared about Lillian, in Away. And was fully engaged with that story. I read it was also compared to "Cold Mountain" and I didn't like that one either. Haha!! Though it's too long since I rad that one to make a better contrast for you. :/
