it was ok
bookshelves: did-not-finish
Read from February 07 to 09, 2012 — I own a copy

First impressions: Not an easy read, we're inside the head of an inarticulate gunner called Alfred Day, in WWII and it's difficult to engage with the character and therefore the book. I have started speed reading it involuntarily! It's written in a stuccato style which fits the character but is not necessarily a relaxing read - and that's what I was after (at the moment).

There's much to admire in the writing - it's probably me, and my current mood and not ALK ...

Abandoned on p154 - may return to it later in the year and re-read - after all my copy is signed by AL herself when I saw her speak at Warwick University
