I plan to re-read this book (really an extra-long essay to my mind) this year, now that I've suffered loss in my own life. At the time I read it, however, I had loved ones who were quite ill and I remember thinking that the poignance and optimism in this book meant something dear to me. I can only imagine that these feelings would be strengthened by a second reading. Didion is an elegant writer and discusses grief with spare prose and intensity. A lovely book.
