The 4th in the Pink Carnation series. This is another light historical romance centered around spying during the Napoleanic Wars.
Mary Alsworthy, who we've seen in the previous books as being devious, sly, flirty, and bold, is featured in this novel. She is made somewhat more likeable but is still not the nicest heroine. I guess this is why she matches so well with Lord Vaughn. Mary is forced to restart her search for an eligible husband after losing her latest suitor. In order to do that, she needs money to have s season in London. Too proud to take money from her Brother in law and sister, she agrees to do some spying with Lord Vaughn to try and roust the french spy the Black Tulip. Romance and adventure ensues, etc. These books are enjoyable but all follow the same formula.
