A beautiful book. Deeply felt and sad. The author seems to be an individual with great sympathy. I wasn't crazy about the structure of discrete stories which seemed to diminish the story somehow. And the continued reappearance of the book of love notes seemed a little corny. The author has a wonderful eye for detail and surprising images. My favorite sections were the missionary's, the man who lost his wife, and the autistic (?) boy's. I especially liked the existentialism in the missionary's section, which surprised by feeling fresh. The deep sadness and sensitivity driving the book is the reason I'll read more of this author's work.
