In truth, there are some technical quibbles I have with Manguso's memoir—the first half is tauter than the second half, the chronology is hard to follow, the story dissolves into ambiguity. But I still enjoyed it and continue to recommend the title to others for these reasons: Manguso writes eloquently about having a genetic illness that rips apart her life and the snippets we see into the illness are fascinating. There is also just some beautiful poetic language that binds the text together.
