Hurt Machine, by Reed Farrell Coleman, A-minus, Narrated by Andy Caploe, Produced by audible inc., downloaded from audible.com.

Moe Prager’s daughter, Sarah, is getting married in a few weeks in Connecticut and is having a pre-wedding party for her friends in New York City. At this party, Moe’s former PI partner and former wife, Carmella, showed up and persuaded Moe to help her try to discover why her sister, Alta, was murdered. Carmella gives him very little information, but he finds out through a google search that Alta, and her partner, Maya, EMT’s for the city, had walked out of an up-scale New York restaurant refusing to help a man dying on the kitchen floor and saying they were off duty. This was very unusual for these women who were dedicated EMT’s. So why did it happen? And was Alta killed because of it? But as he investigates, everyone, including finally even Carmella, keeps telling him to drop the case. This just makes him dig in his heels and determine that he will find out what happened. This is a very good book, much better than its immediate predecessor.
