I read this as a book club selection for my book club. As a group we ended up with a 2+ rating, and for me it was about a 2. It had an interesting story line, but it was so disturbing and just plain "nuts" that I truly thought the book was going to be as long as the Wisconsin winter they were in. I am no prude, and a little intimacy can be interesting and appealing in a novel, but after finishing this, I wasn't sure I wanted to read about sex ever again. I have since reconsidered this position and moved on. However, it was the pathetic characters who were portrayed in this novel that I had the most difficulty with; way too sick and pathetic for my sensibility. I have yet to figure out why this book gained so much popularity and was on the best seller list for so long. There are so many good books out there, why this one? I would not recommend this and was glad when I reached the last page.
