An old friend. One I loved as a student and have cherished as a teacher. Pip's journey is a heart-rending and familiar one: how many of us have betrayed a friend or turned from the noble and good to grasp at "all that glitters"? How many have realized the chimera a moment too late and, only then, recognized the meanness of our own affections? Oh, but what an ending.
