This was a better than average time-travel book with a likable hero and a healthy dose of adventure and romance. Detracting from the story was a lot of ridiculous preoccupation with the heroine's red pumps, that idiocy added nothing to the story except to disturb the flow of my reading while I wondered what that nonsense was about. What is it about chick lit that the authors have to feel obligated to throw in stupidities that make no sense just to turn the otherwise likable heroine into a vain bimbo, make the reader roll her eyes and grit her teeth, and detract from the forward movement of the plot? Even time travel makes more sense than a jeans-wearing woman stupid enough to wear stilettos on a long road trip, all alone, just to visit her parents--hey, you might get into an accident and have to walk. Buy the stupid jerk a good pair of nikes, edit out all the red stiletto crapola, and this might have been a four-star book.
