I love the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series. (Please ignore the film; it swaps everything great about the graphic novels for these heavy-breathing Hollywood cliches.) However, Black Dossier is a somewhat frustrating. Moore indulges his hippie dippy, anarchistic, gnostic, mystical inclinations and crams in too many pomo cultural references, to little emotional effect and only minor intellectual impact; I felt it lacked the iron storytelling discipline of the two previous installments. Still, it reflects Moore's usual skill and intelligence, and it can be fun for those familiar with the source stories (such as Orlando or The Avengers) upon which Moore builds his narrative.
