** spoiler alert ** This was my first James Patterson novel, and I have to say it was probably my last. I was expecting much, much more from a best-selling author - more complexity, more depth, more emotion.

While I can see how the plot lends itself well to summer movie adaptation, as has been Patterson's style in the past with Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, I found the writing entirely too simplistic, as if were distilled down to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Nothing too challenging so as not to offend the masses. The characters were flat. The love affair.. Don't get me started. Let's just say that you could totally tell that a man wrote this book. The two main detectives jumped from begrudging partners to passionate lovers with a blink of an eye and little to no development, which annoyed me. The ending - a disjointed killer-surprise-attack-for-one-final-bloody-act kind of deal. Eh...

I would recommend this book to someone who just wants a quick read for a plane trip, someone seeking a cheap & dirty thrill but not much else.
