This book is not a prediction for a future of abundance, but a description of the limits of having a scarcity mindset and the potential of exponentially growing fields of technology to tackle the world's biggest problems. It is a departure from the gloom-and-doom predictions that have become commonplace and will leave you with a sense of optimism and awe for the decades that lie ahead.

Diamandis at times seems to be promoting his own causes (which is understandable, as he is the founder of the X Prize foundation and a co-founder of the Singularity Institute along with Ray Kurzweil), but he describes many different technologies and approaches to solving problems like world hunger, clean water and education that are being developed now and will continue to grow and accomplish more and more according to Moore's Law.

If nothing else, this book will give you a sense of what is going in the world of technology and who the great contributors are. Diamandis puts faith in small groups of motivated individuals working within creative parameters to solve problems that seem insurmountable and presents his case with ease, humor and in language that both invites and entices the reader.
