Another excellent installment in the chronicles of Aubrey and Maturin; unusual among those books for its lack of any command for Aubrey. The naval battles witnessed by the characters are strictly rendered historical battles, and thus cannot fall under Aubrey's fictional command.

More of this volume concerns social and intelligence matters than the purely naval, and it's often quite exciting in the spy line.
