Was inspired to read Moby Dick by the novel The Secret of Lost Things in which Herman Melville and Moby Dick play a role. I was surprised by how comical portions of the novel are and I really enjoyed Melville's prose early on. His comparison of a pulpit to the prow of a ship which is the World was especially meaningful for me. But I've just kind of lost interest. I've learned that I need to vary my reading; go back and forth between fiction and non-fiction so that I don't get bored. So, The Whale sits on the table by the reading chair in my library, waiting for me to return.
